What a fantastic evening. Last Thursday we were honoured to host over 250 counter fraud professionals from across Central Government, Local Authorities, NHS and the Criminal Justice System at the Public Sector Counter Fraud Awards 2024 to celebrate the inspiring and transformational work going on to counter fraud within the public sector.
We had a record 90 nominations across 11 categories, demonstrating the size and breadth of the impact that counter fraud professionals are having across the sector and with private sector and other partners.
"It's so great that we can have events like this - where we come together and take the time to celebrate what we're all doing and achieving in trying to deal with fraud."
- Mark Cheeseman OBE

Looking Ahead
In his opening speech, Mark Cheeseman OBE looked to the future, and why now is an exciting and impactful time to work within public sector counter fraud:
"The challenge is big, but we've never had more of an opportunity to make a difference.
We've never had more political will - we heard from two Minsters today, one from the health service and one from the centre of government, telling us their commitment to countering fraud.
We know there's an ongoing focus on this area. We know we're getting more and more legislation - the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill, the Online Safety Bill, the Procurement Bill - we know we're getting more tools and more things we can use to have a bigger impact.
We also know that our voice, as passionate people who are trying to do more on fraud, is being increasingly heard and looked to for the answers, and this is a great opportunity for us to say what we need to do the job and to have that bigger impact.
So for me this is and incredibly exciting time to work in fraud.
We need to keep talking about the great work that we're doing and the impact that we're having, because it's incredibly impactful and meaningful."
