Modernising the Divorce Service to Deliver Positive Change to Citizens

Traditionally, HMCTS services have been supported by high-volume, paper-based processes which result in inefficiencies and frequent delays for court services, legal representatives and citizens in the justice process.

As a trusted partner to HM Government, Kainos took responsibility as a digital delivery partner to modernise the service, for the needs of those who use them.

The service had an immediate impact with a 95% drop in the number of digital divorce applications returned because of mistakes, and a 57% reduction in time taken to complete, when compared with paper forms.

Take a look at their recent presentation as part of the Modernising Criminal Justice virtual summit to discover how they achieved this brilliant success and what went on behind the scenes.

Session Summary:
  • Using the HMCTS divorce service as a case study to demonstrate the impact and benefits of moving to digital platforms to help both UK citizens and government organisations.

Key learnings:
  • Balancing the needs of the different users in a live service while continuing to deliver business benefits
  • Challenges of delivering a large service in a large-scale programme during COVID. This will include talking about dependencies and the use of common components
  • Getting a benchmark for the live service performance and adoption for uptake
